It's the morning of the 28th and we have stayed overnight in La Fuente de San Esteban, a small Spanish town, after holeing a tyre in the car last night. Starting to see other competitors on the road. Eating lunch yesterday and a group of Japanese came in with Hino logos. Outside were two serious race trucks, and there was also a flatbed with a couple of Kia 4wds. The "huge" amount of money I've spent is a drop in the bucket to some of these teams.

Young Peter,

Thanks for giving me the opportunity to do the Dakar vicariously.

You are a man among men!

Good Luck

First day and we are doing it in comfort and style. Frans from ENF is driving the Mercedes Viano Ambiance, and we have just gone through Paris. We could see the Eifel Tower, so I have the feeling that the Paris-Dakar is really starting, even though we actually leave from Lisbon.
The last few days have been long, trying to get the last minute things done around my job. I'm catching up on it now though by falling asleep from Amsterdam to Paris (grin) Pete.

While sitting here watching the snow come down, I can only be jealous of your great adventure. Of course it is nice and cozy here in the heated living room, and I have no casts on my limbs...

Good luck Peter.
